A new charitable non-profit entity has been formed and is taking donations to help preserve Norman’s legacy, as well as help maintain (and possibly operate) the historic 7th Street Studio. We are talking charitable donations to a qualified, tax-exempt organization which can be deducted from your taxes.
Beyond seeking your financial donations, contributions of vintage memorabilia, instruments, recording equipment, stage-wear, letters, photographs, records, and related items will also be considered.
The purpose of Friends of Norman Petty, Inc. is to promote and preserve the legacy of Norman Petty, as a recording engineer, producer, music business executive, songwriter, and musician, as well as his wife Vi’s significant role in it all.
As it can, the entity is to help preserve the 7th street recording studio where American history was made, currently operated like a museum, displaying equipment, instruments, artifacts, and memorabilia from the era.
Possibly through endowment, the entity could lease and operate the museum, continuing the exhibits, providing for tours, continuing to educate the public about the history, the famous events that occurred, and the artists who came through the doors. Moreover, this entity should make efforts to get Norman recognized by the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
Notwithstanding, the main purpose is to continue to tell the story of Norman Petty by all means possible, recognizing the amazing things he accomplished in the music business, sharing the incredible music he made, and pointing out the mark he left on the world.
